We have reinstated a wonderful program that was first offered by the UCV several years ago – Homework Assistance.  We hope that the Community House will be a safe and caring place where children and youth can come to get the help they need to keep up in school.  In order for this program to succeed, more adult and youth volunteers are needed who can be available one day (or more) a week after school to help.  Youth tutors can receive community service credit for their assistance.

The Homework Assistance Program is offered during the school year (when Murrieta schools are in session) without fee, operating on a donation basis to offset any expenses.  No one will be turned away because of finances.

If you can help as a tutor, please notify the church office (951-698-1520).  Please also help us spread the word about this program to parents and children in our community.  Since we want to include all who may need some assistance, it will be great if some of our tutors can assist with English learners.

English as a Second Language - The Community House has been designated as a Laubach Literacy Center by the Laubach Literacy Council of San Diego County.  If you are interested in assisting in this program, contact Lynne Bradley. Students (adults and children) can register on any Monday evening.  Contact Corina for more information (se habla espanol):  951-302-0036.

INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER - Thursday, September 21, 2006:  One thousand Pinwheels for "Whirled" Peace, created by Murrieta citizens under the coordination of Junior Girl Scout Troop #184 were on display in the front yard of The Community House for a few days in September.  This Bronze Award Project of these young scouts encouraged residents to express thoughts on the pinwheels about peace and living in harmony with others.

Randy Leisey, Lynne Bradley and others from United Church of the Valley rang out our handbells for peace in the afternoon, after the pinwheels were "planted" by the scouts.  We are proud to support the girls in this endeavor.

The Pinwheels for Peace project was widespread. - See their website for photos of the Murrieta scouts (2006 Photo Gallery pages 12,13 and 1) as well as others who are speaking out for peace throughout the world.

PEACE VIGIL - Several members of our community hold a Peace Rally at our Peace Pole, in front of The Community House, every Friday from 4-5:00 pm.  Join us!
