Sunday Worship Location: Shivela Middle School, at 24515 Lincoln Ave, Murrieta

OUR VISION

The dreams of the original founding members of UCV were for a community of faith where God’s people would embrace all persons with love and dignity, learning to celebrate diversity as God’s very image.  Since then, United Church of the Valley continues to be a leading voice in progressive Christianity, a witness to God’s inclusive love, a refuge for many beaten down by religion, and a place where matters of justice and peace are taken seriously.

UNITED CHURCH OF THE VALLEY ADOPTS STATEMENT OF AFFIRMATION

UCV has voted unanimously on May 24, 2009 to adopt an open and affirming Statement of Affirmation which publicly announces that we are a church who welcomes all people wherever they are on life's journey. It is our firm belief that all people may share freely in God's unconditional love for them and in the life of our church, in its sacraments, and in its leadership, ministry, fellowship, worship, and stewardship.

This action fully supports our founding Vision above and our founding Statement of Purpose below as well as our alignment with United Church of Christ's TV ads regarding inclusiveness of all the people. Also see the recent Press Enterprise article by Carl Love "Open and Affirming".

SHELBY KNOX REDUX - a Welcoming Conversations Project

In concert with our inclusive attitude, on Sunday June 28 at 6:30pm at Shivela Middle School, UCV is hosting a screening of Shelby Knox Redux, followed by discussions of the issues of community and Christian openness and inclusivness regarding sexual education and orientation. For more information on this important event, please click here.

OUR STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

We believe that we are called to continue the work of Jesus in this world through teaching and preaching the love of God, seeking ways to love and understand all people and establishing the ways of peace, hope, healing and justice.   Our faith is progressive in accomplishing these tasks in cooperation with any and all who seek the same goals for this world.

OUR STATEMENT OF AFFIRMATION

We, the congregation of United Church of the Valley, Murrieta, declare ourselves to be Open and Affirming.

As such, we strive to be a congregation that welcomes all persons, regardless of age; mental and physical health and ability; racial, ethnic, and cultural identity or background; economic, educational, and social status; sexual orientation, gender identity and its expression; marital status and family structure; or faith background.

We welcome all to share in the life, leadership, ministry, fellowship, worship, sacraments, stewardship, responsibilities, blessings and joys of our congregation’s life in Christ.

Six UCV members and two friends will soon begin our second journey to engage with our global mission partners in Chacraseca, Nicaragua.  The trip is scheduled for June 15 through June 23

WHAT WILL WE DO?  Our primary activity will be continuing to grow our relationship with our global neighbors -- learning about their culture, experiencing daily lilfe with them, hearing their struggles, hopes, and dreams, and sharing ours.  We will also engage with them in working to realize  some of their dreams, including constructing at least one house for families left nearly homeless by recent hurricanes.  We will also continue to expand the music and arts program we started last year, and continue to support their efforts to complete their communal clean water system.  And, of course, there will be some time for sightseeing!

Contributions will be gratefully accepted toward the home, supplies and gifts for the community -- including helping to pay a salary for a professional music teacher for four of the schools in the area. Contact LynneB@unitedchurchofthevalley.org or call 760-723-8758.

===============================================================

Several members of our community hold a Peace Vigil at our Peace Pole, in front of The Community House, every Friday from 4-5:00 pm.  Join us as we witness for peace for all God's family!
